In our book “How Does Santa Go Down The Chimney?”, the illustrations’ relationship to the text is somewhat fluid. Santa’s ability to hear the written text, his attitude towards it, and even whether the illustrations are meant to be showing a “real” or “hypothetical” thing happening, changes and evolves over the course of the book. This kind of maneuvering can be helpful in joke and just general storytelling, and we thought it would be fun and seasonally-appropriate to do a discussion (over text, as per usual) about it here.
