Just popping in to say the sanctimonious social media posts over one sentence are just so, so dumb. So many otherwise intelligent people completely missing Mac’s point. Also, “crud” is just a very funny word. Love the book.

I literally sat my family down a few days ago and told them for Mother’s Day I want each of them to make me a venn diagram card, content their choice.

Also, what’s with the snubbing of the Midwest? I’m trying not to take it personally but

Co-sign the concern about Midwest erasure. And also - I’m going to request venn diagram cards!

The awe and connection to the mysteries of the world that children still have, without the need to solve them- it’s the ultimate beauty. For that reason, children’s literature has always and will always be the most exciting to me. Really excited for this one.

Mac. 95% of the market is crud. Don’t back down, use your position to inspire better.

I'd raise you that 96% of children's books are crud. It's interesting that BIPOC advocacy brought this into their purview. Alternative to the criticism that the view comes from a place of privilege, one could make the argument that 96% of children's books are crud specifically because publishing underrepresents the awesome works of BIPOC authors. And if BIPOC groups were more represented then there would be less crud!

Children’s librarian says: I have read it in its entirety, and I have bought 25 copies for a book club. I’m wondering at what percent of my budget could I use to buy MORE before my library gets nervous.

Finally, a tome to start the conversation on how to (and I guess whyfore if you don’t know) take children’s literature seriously. So useful.

I gobbled it up this weekend. It's beautiful. You articulated so much of my heart in the work of writing for kids. And I love the challenge to go further. I hope with time that more people will speak up about the substance of it and build the conversation we need on making more great books for kids.

Can hardly wait to read. So, so important to understand how "intelligent and open-minded" children are when reading and writing books. Thank you!

I naively thought my pre-order would arrive today. I'm very much looking forward to it and wish you had a book tour stop somewhere in the mid-south. I'd be there 💚
