The way I just dashed to my library's home page to put a hold on Amos & Boris. I must know how this turns out!

I think my all-time favorite is the Caps for Sale spread, “When he woke up he was refreshed and rested.”

Interesting read! I do find in life just like in picture book the line between calm times and absolute panic is deceptively paper thin.

Yes to Steig being the master of possibility and the clear-eyed recorder of despair. Kids know about despair and being in a bind. And then Steig leads the reader out of the worst of it. How I love his work.

Amos & Boris is the answer I give when people ask me what my favorite picture book is. Every moment of it is perfect. The page turn near the end is my favorite, the one that comes after "I'm afraid he won't be able to help me," said Boris to himself. "Much as he wants to do something, what can such a little fellow do?"

Amos & Boris is the book that made me want to write. I had favorites before that and inklings, but this one did it for me.

Amos & Boris is a favorite in my collection! I've read all the Henry books before but it's been awhile, so I got ahold of them again and it was great to read them with my younger kids. They're brilliant! Also, Henry's Awful Mistake gives me the same vibes as The Skunk by our venerable National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. Did you take any inspiration there?

Adding Amos & Boris to my TBR list. It reminds me of The Fate of Fausto, which also has an incredible page turn (or series of) when Fausto ends up in the water. The book leading up to that series of page turns is very straight forward, almost entirely told in spots, and then it takes a hard left. That book shook me.

Hey, 92Y thinks Mac and Jennifer Garner are talking on Friday, Dec 5 at 8. If it really is the 6th, let me (and, um, them, I guess) know!

They are right. It’s 12/5. We’ve corrected the post. Thanks!

Yes, I decided to see how it ends too. I was entranced by the longer narrative and style of the illustrations.

I don’t know how I’ve missed these Henry books my whole life, so thank you for introducing me to them. They’re so funny. In this one, that moment when he grabs the hammer, it’s funny, but also a little dark. That’s just my favorite feeling in any medium, when I’m laughing but also like, “OH NO THIS IS TERRIBLE.”

OMG What happens to Amos?!?!

Both these books are so great. Henry overdoin it on the ant war is very relatable. Also, will the hats be back in stock for Christmas?
